Choosing the right request type

Understand common request types such as access, deletion, correction, portability, opt-out, and other requests.

Common choices

The portal may offer request types such as access, deletion, correction, portability, opt-out, restriction, or other. The available choices depend on how the company configured its portal.

  • Choose access if you want a copy or explanation of personal data the company maintains.
  • Choose deletion if you want the company to review whether data can be deleted.
  • Choose correction if account or profile information appears inaccurate.

When you are unsure

If no option matches exactly, choose the closest request type or use the general option if the portal provides one. The responder can ask follow-up questions or reclassify the operational workflow after review.

  • Use the description field to explain the outcome you want.
  • Do not submit duplicate requests for the same issue unless the company asks you to resubmit.
  • Contact the company if the portal options do not match your relationship with them.
